This past Saturday was Winona State University's Homecoming and boy was it a good one. The day started out rather early since I took my friend back to her apartment at about 7:30 so she could get ready for cheerleading. By 8:30 am her neighbor's music was already pounding and you could tell the party had begun. We headed to the annual parade that goes down Huff Street and shows off all of the cool things going on at WSU. My personal favorite part was the fact that a guy with an adorable dog stood behind us so we got to play with him a little bit but I think the guys enjoyed the Hip Hop team as they did the wobble in skimpy leggings.... No surprise there. After only a few shenanigans and some great pictures we headed to McD's, the ultimate place to eat when hungover (not for me sillies, the others were hungover, I was just hungry).
When we finally got back to the apartment the parties and pre-gaming were in full swing. There was a case of beer on the counter that I'm pretty sure didn't even last 2 hours before it was gone. We hurried over to the football field an hour early and ended up getting center field, front row spots and cheered our hearts out! We cheered on Lindzey as she cheered with the cheerleaders and screamed and screamed at those football players. Unfortunately, it started raining at halftime so after watching the cheerleader/dance team performance, we were outta there. Little did we know that we would get back to a shock.
It turns out that the deck on Lindzey's neighboring apartment collapsed just before the game began. These were the same people that started drinking at 8:30 in the morning. Apparently there was about 8 people on the actual deck and like 3 to each step going down. Eight people were admitted to the hospital and it even got on the news all the way in Rochester. Basically, it was a HUGE deal. That didn't stop the party tho, the people directly below and around them continued into the wee hours of the night.
It was a blast to watch all the crazy drinking games and drunks stumble around. It's crazy to think the party in Lindzey's apartment lasted until at least 3 am after an entire day of drinking. I'm proud of those I partied with.
Here's to hoping not too many people got minors and no one was hurt. I hope everyone had a kick ass homecoming! Needless to say, I'll definitely come back to visit during homecoming next year!

Good stuff to know!
I found this today whilst browsing the internet during class and thought more should enjoy the pleasure of reading it. It's a rather good article. CHECK IT OUT! I'll post more of my own stuff later, but right now cookie dough and a movie are calling my name. Thanks!

Homecoming
Today is my high school's Homecoming. To be more precise, my senior year Homecoming. The only thing different about mine compared to all the people in my class is that I go to school 200 miles away and have since junior year. I'm still a student at my high school, I just don't take any classes there.
You know, as much as I hated high school, I still miss the festivities of Homecoming week. The dress-up days, the excuse to be totally silly and get away with it. Even voting for the king and queen.
Last year I went back and went to the game, played with the pep band, and even went to the dance. This year, I'm going back of course, but only to see Erik since he's going back this weekend, too.
It's crazy how people change. Their priorities change. In high school, I was extremely worried about fitting in and getting good grades, being cool and enjoying "the best years of my life." Now, I still worry about my grades, but I do things that I want to do because I want to do them. I've stopped caring what other people think of me and the need to fit in. That's the glory in going to school and getting away from that damn small town. I got away from the cliques, the judging, and the hell that high school was and is for so many people.
I'm truly glad that I left Hutchinson at 16 to do bigger and better things in my life. I only hope that the people trapped there are able to break the mindset and see the world differently someday.
